Contemporary Christian artist TobyMac cries out to God with the powerful words of ‘I’m Sorry (a lament).’ During these turbulent times, we turn to God for His guidance and grace.

“We started out strong
But somewhere along
We lost our way
Done things in Your name
I’m so ashamed”

For decades, TobyMac has been sharing the word of God through his unique style of worship music. He started as member of the popular group, DC Talk, before embarking on a successful solo career. Many of his songs, such as ‘Eye On It’ and ‘Lose My Soul’ reached the number one spot on the Billboard charts.

Today, he’s sharing a very personal song inspired by recent events all around the globe. The idea of ‘I’m Sorry (a lament)’ came to TobyMac when he was on a trip to Israel with his wife.

While at the Arbel Cliffs, his tour guide started to recite the famed sermon on the mount. “The words of Jesus from Matthew 5, 6 and 7 struck me as if I had never read them before. I realized just how far we have strayed from what Jesus is asking of us. This (song) is simply my response, not judgment. I am deeply sorry for how far we have fallen short. And Godly sorrow leads to repentance.”

“Now it’s long overdue
But I can’t dilute what we’ve seemed to put on the shelf
I can’t speak for us all
But I gotta believe I’m speaking for more than myself, when I say
I’m sorry, I’m sorry”

We fall short of God every single day. But continuing to build our relationship with Him and those around us will help us to build the Church that He envisions. What a beautiful reminder through this timely worship song.
