Listen as this high school choir sings ‘Standing on the Promises,’ accompanied by the high school orchestra.

Regardless of the song choice, this is probably the prettiest musical performance I’ve ever seen. They’re on a beach in Hawaii — obviously, it’s gorgeous!

These students all attend Fountainview Academy, a Christian boarding school in British Columbia, Canada. This unique school was founded in 1975 and aimed to create an education based on the book, “Education,” written by Ellen G. White.

Their curriculum not only teaches them the necessary academics but fosters their relationships with Christ too. Everything they do is to serve the Lord and spread the gospel. And with almost 250,000 subscribers on Youtube, I’d say the school is definitely spreading its faith!

‘Standing on the Promises’ was written in 1886 by Russel Kelso Carter. This man was a teacher, a coach, an ordained Methodist minister, a doctor, AND a musician. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, his song became a very well-known hymnal.

Russel wrote many songs, but when his health deteriorated when he was only 30 years old, ‘Standing on the Promises’ seemed to become his anthem of sorts. Doctors did all they could do for him, so Russel turned to God and began truly believing in the word of the Lord. He lived almost 50 more years, devoting his life to Christ.

The lyrics basically say as long as someone trusts in God, He will protect them and give them eternal life. Here is the most powerful part.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.

The choral arrangement of the hymn is beautiful, and the students seem as though they’re singing both to God and to the world about His love. God clearly blessed each and every one of these students with a gift to spread His word.
