Simon Cowell was moved to tears by a touching and Golden Buzzer-winning performance from a South African choir on America’s Got Talent

America’s Got Talent is responsible for bringing immensely talented and previously undiscovered dancers, singers, acrobats and everything in between into the homes of millions. During the show’s run, there have been some dazzling, lovely acts and ones that weren’t so great. There have also been emotional moments where either the contestant or one of the judges choked up. But it's unclear if there has ever been an instance that caused Simon to shed a tear.

That has since changed. The Mzansi Youth Choir’s heartfelt performance of Jane “Nightbirde” Marczewski’s song “It’s Ok” moved the former American Idol judge to tears. Nightbirde, a former AGT contestant, passed away following a four-year battle with cancer in early 2022, according to NBC.

The Mzansi Youth Choir's stunning vocal and dance number is not notable for just bringing Simon to tears, but it came with another first. The choir received the first-ever Golden Buzzer from the audience!

After the performance, the audience was on their feet, wildly applauding the gifted group. As the judges gave the group comments, the audience rose to their feet again and began chanting, “Golden Buzzer, Golden Buzzer.”

Simon, Heidi Klum and their fellow judges conferred and slammed the Golden Buzzer together on behalf of the studio audience. It was a magical occasion as the confetti began to fall on the stage, landing on members of the Mzansi Youth Choir. Several of them were overcome with emotion as tears started falling down their faces.

What a beautiful, stunning and emotional moment featuring several talented performers. It’s a well-deserved Golden Buzzer.

In the clip, judge and actress Sofía Vergara referred to the performance as “the perfect AGT audition.”
