A former American Idol contestant has turned in a stunning and astonishing rendition of the tune “Dancing on My Own” from singer-songwriter Robyn.
Failure is never easy to endure or to accept. Everyone wants to succeed in everything they attempt. But there is no person on Earth who is perfect. All are with their flaws. Unfortunately, that means failure is a part of our everyday lives. It will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
However, failure is not always a bad thing. In fact, like every other situation, God can make something beautiful out of those shortcomings, out of our failures.
Colin Stough, one of the last remaining contestants on the past season of American Idol, is not letting failing to win the top spot on the show keep him from pursuing music. On YouTube, the young man has posted a handful of videos of him performing, including one of him singing “Dancing on My Own.”
The song, originally performed by Robyn and later covered by Calum Scott, is an upbeat and up-tempo track despite its sad and depressing lyrics. But Colin, in his rendition, takes the song in an entirely different direction.
Colin gives the track a country sound with his acoustic cover. He slows the song down considerably from the original. Instead of the high-octane, pulse-pound beats, the focus is on Colin’s voice.
Like he consistently did on American Idol, Colin gives a thoroughly impressive and strong performance. At several points throughout the clip, Colin reaches back and lets loose, showing what his voice can really do. At approximately the 2:45-minute mark, Colin hits and holds several high notes.
Several others who commented on the YouTube video mentioned how much they appreciated Colin’s performance.
“His voice gives me cold chills everytime (sic) I hear it,” one person wrote.
“No matter how he sings, the cold chills just get stronger and stronger. He is such an awesome singer!” a second person added.
It’s clear that this young man is extremely talented and is persevering. He is not going to allow what some may consider failure to keep him from singing and playing music.
