Check out this story of bus drivers coming to the rescue after a toddler was left on the side of the road after a carjacking.
Recently in Michigan, a toddler boy was in the back seat of his parents’ car when it was stolen by carjackers. And soon after the scary event, Sue Figueroa, a bus driver, spotted the toddler wandering alone next to the road and came to his rescue.
“I just drove past a baby by the side of the road with a blanket, and I just immediately said, ‘I need to turn around and get back there right away,’” said Sue.
While Sue was helping the lost little boy onto her bus and thinking of what her next step would be to help locate his parents, another bus driver was helping out in his own way.
The parents of the toddler had actually frantically waved down Dave Skinner, another bus driver, after the carjacking took place.
“I had a couple of parents raising their arms, trying to stop traffic,” Dave said.
Dave instantly knew something was wrong, and when he pulled over to talk to them, the mom and dad told him about the carjacking and their lost little boy.
As Dave was calling in for help, the toddler was already safe with Sue on her bus. Soon, dispatchers were able to bring the bus drivers, the parents, and the toddler together.
What a great rescue story! And Dave shared about how vigilant bus drivers are while they are working.
“Drivers are very attentive of all the kids in the neighborhood when we’re picking them up, and if they see something odd or strange, they’re real quick to get on the radio and holler back,” shared Dave.
