Watch as this adorable 4-year-old Irish singer performs ‘Danny Boy.”
Emma Sophia Ryan’s rendition of this timeless ballad will melt your heart. At just 3 years old, Emma Sophia shocked the world with her performance of ‘Ireland’s Call’ in a family video posted on Youtube. The internet fell in love with the little cutie, so she and her family gave the new fans what they wanted — more videos!
At the beginning of the pandemic, Emma Sophia comforted her audience with weekly videos of The Emma Sophia Show. She learned a new song each week, told jokes, and even gave some safety advice about COVID-19. She even interviewed some musicians on video calls!
Not that she knows what a bucket list is, but I’m sure she has already crossed off a bunch of things!
The lyrics to ‘Danny Boy’ were written in the early 1900’s by a British man named Frederic Weatherly. But the music actually came right from the streets of Ireland.
Jane Ross notated the tune played by a street fiddler in 1851 but didn’t get the musician’s name. Her arrangement is called ‘Londenderry Air.’ Technically, an anonymous fiddler wrote the song!
Frederic ended up fitting his lyrics into the music a few years after he wrote them. Here are the iconic opening lyrics:
“Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountainside,
The summer’s gone, and all the roses falling,
It’s you, it’s you must go and I must bide.”
In Emma Sophia’s music video, you can see her sweetly sing this famous Irish ballad through the gorgeous scenery in Ireland. This tiny star got over 3 million views in the first week alone, so her family made her cover available to purchase. All of the proceeds go to Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
An amazing voice and a big heart? Emma Sophia will do incredible things with her talent!
