The Queen of Country Music, Reba McEntire, mentioned how she heard God’s voice and received His direction after she slowed down, took a break and paused momentarily.
Our world is hectic and chaotic, where everyone is constantly on the go, moving at a frantic, break-neck pace. People are always doing something, likely multiple things at once, trying to maximize their time. It’s become such a pervasive and standard practice that we’ve coined a term for it: multi-tasking.
Always rushing around, trying to get this or that done, doesn’t leave much room for peace. Sadly, peace is a concept that is likely foreign to most people. Many may be searching for peace but come up empty every single time. However, there is one who provides a peace that surpasses all understanding.
In a clip posted on YouTube, Reba tells actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore how she heard God’s voice and received His direction when she finally slowed down and took a break from her busy schedule.
The country music legend says that after finishing The Voice, she returned to her place in Tennessee. It was there, in nature, among the animals and in the quiet, that the Lord spoke to her.
“And with nature, you hear the birds, and then you appreciate and then you get to see God’s beauty and God’s wonderment,” she said. “But the best part is you get to hear what God’s trying to tell ya.”
Reba adds that she heard the Lord’s voice as clear as day when she was walking, and He gave her specific instructions.
“The greatest thing happened to me one time when I was out walking, and I was talking to the Lord, and I said, ‘What do you want me to do?’” she says. “He said, ‘Pray for peace.’ I just heard it, like it was an audible. And I said, ‘Okie doke.’”
She adds that after she followed God’s instructions to pray for peace, He told her to write and record a song about peace.
“And so, if I’d been in the very fast-paced world I live in, I wouldn’t have ever heard that,” Reba said.
2 Thessalonians 3:16“Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. May the Lord be with you all.”
