A group of unbelievably talented vocalists, Home Free, turned in an awe-inspiring and outstanding a cappella cover of Johnny Cash’s iconic and most recognizable tune, “Ring of Fire.”

Johnny Cash was a legendary musician. Throughout his career, the musician produced a handful of classic tunes that are still heard today. Despite dying in 2003, Johnny’s influence on music is still widely seen and heard.

Many other musicians have taken a stab and tried to cover one or several of his classic songs. A quick YouTube search of “Ring of Fire covers” results in hundreds of videos where other musicians play and sing Johnny’s song, and that’s just for one of his songs.

Home Free, who describe themselves as “the world’s only all-vocal country band,” can now be added to that long list of musicians who have produced “Ring Of Fire” covers. In a clip posted on YouTube, the guys perform the 1963 hit.

“I fell into a burning ring of fire

I went down, down, down

And the flames went high

And it burns, burns, burns”

Topping a song made famous by the legendary Johnny Cash is not going to happen, ever. The best anyone could hope to do with a song by the Man in Black is to make it their own by changing it in some form or fashion. That’s exactly what the guys from Home Free do with their version of the tune.

For starters, Home Free’s version is completely a cappella. No one will ever mistake their cover for a blatant attempt at copying Johnny’s sound. Also, Home Free adds an almost tropical sound to their version.

Home Free’s cover is an enjoyable listen and deserves to be heard. However, it’s nothing like the beloved original from Johnny Cash!

Psalm 105:2 “Let your voice be sounding in songs and melody; let all your thoughts be of the wonder of his works.”
