One Clemson football player got a major shock before he took the field when his military father, stationed overseas, returned and surprised him.
The men and women of the United States armed forces routinely put themselves in harm’s way for their country. They willingly give their time and talents for the good of the country they love. They sacrifice a lot for their fellow countrymen and women.
However, military members aren’t the only people who endure sacrifices. Their families are often forced to go weeks, months and even years without seeing and being able to hug their brother, sister, mother or father. A sweet video posted on YouTube of a father and a son helps to put those sacrifices into perspective.
As the video mentions, at the time, Ty Lucas was a member of the Clemson University football team. Ty was a running back on the team. Ty had not seen his father, Cody Lucas, a captain in the United States Army, in nine months. Cpt. Cody Lucas had been serving in the Middle East for quite some time.
But before Ty and his teammates took the field to do battle on the gridiron, his dad anxiously paced around looking for his son, hoping to surprise him with his reappearance.
Before the big surprise, Cody addressed the camera and mentioned how much he cares for and loves Ty.
“I love ya, man,” Cody said. “I’m proud of ya. Thanks to all of the coaching staff and all your teammates.”
When the big moment finally arrives, Ty cannot believe his eyes. His jaw literally falls open when he spots his father. The two then share a long-awaited and much-anticipated loving embrace.
Ty is overwhelmed by the surprise as tears begin filling his eyes.
“It was a huge surprise,” Ty said. “It was the best thing ever. I didn’t expect it at all. It was crazy.”
