Life is not very pleasant at times. Circumstances may not always play out in our favor, but nevertheless powering through is usually our only and often best option. One judge shared this hard lesson, which impacted his family.
In a YouTube clip of the program “Caught in Providence,” a young woman was addressing Judge Frank Caprio. She was in court to dispute a parking ticket.
As the woman explains to the benevolent judge, she is a student at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. However, due to her financial situation, she cannot afford the additional $700 fee to use the parking garage next to her residence hall on campus. So instead, she paid a smaller amount to park her vehicle in another area.
But by the time she leaves work and returns to campus, there are no places left but street parking. However, because her car was in a place where parking is not permitted during a designated time, she received a $20 ticket.
The judge, before ruling, says that his son – a lawyer – also recently received a parking ticket. His son explained the situation to his father, but the judge told him to go ahead and pay the ticket anyway.
The judge’s son is even sitting in the courtroom as the judge tells the young woman this story. His son even holds up his receipt from paying the ticket!
However, the judge has mercy on the young woman and agrees to dismiss her parking ticket. He then wishes her good luck as he sends her on her way.
The world is a tough place, but everyone needs a little bit of mercy now and then.
Micah 6:8 “He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?”
