In the wake of the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that rocked Turkey and Syria, a miracle happened.
A baby born in the rubble was among the earthquake survivors. Among the flattened cities that displaced millions of people, more than 41,000 have died. Despite the tragedy, miracles are happening. Little heroes are giving people hope when all seems lost.
One precious newborn was rescued under a five-story apartment building that had collapsed. Her mother had given birth during the earthquake, the baby was still attached to the umbilical cord, covered in dust, dirt, and scrapes.
Though her mother sadly didn’t make it, this precious little girl did. She made her debut around the world sleeping in an incubator at the hospital. Scrubbed clean of the debris, she is safe and sound. To be born in such devastating circumstances and to survive, the people of Syria named her Aya, meaning a sign from God.
Once she is strong enough, she will go home to live with her uncle, who will one day tell her of how she is a survivor and a sign of hope.
Just when there seems to be no hope left, more people are being found, with rescue teams coming in from all over the world in hopes of rescuing as many lives as possible. The video reveals so many little lives being found, giving searchers a newfound sense of hope and urgency.
Each rescue creates a moment of celebration for rescuers and bystanders as they cheer and praise God for the miraculous lives being saved.
May we take a moment to lift up each and every life that has been pulled from the rubble? There are so many families torn apart, lives lost, and cities obliterated. Let’s keep the people of Syria and Turkey in our prayers. We ask God to comfort them, to give them strength, peace, and solace as they begin to rebuild all that was lost in this natural disaster.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit,” Psalm 34:18.
