The world is full of problems, complications and troubles. These situations can and do produce, in many people, great worry and anxiety. Despite everything happening in the world, there is still reason to praise and thank God.

“That’s The Thing About Praise,” a song by Benjamin Williams Hasting and Blessing Offor, stresses the importance of praising God during trials and troubles. Life’s tough times come to us all and sometimes, no matter how much we may try to change the situation, all we can do is praise God.

The chorus points out that, at times, all we can do is praise and have faith in God that He is still in control.

“Sometimes the only through it is a hallelujah

Sometimes the only thing to do is just give it to you

And though my troubles shake me, I know they will never move You”

While the song mentions that praising God during tough times is all we may be able to do, it brings up another important, often overlooked aspect of praise. Praising and just being grateful and thankful for what God has done in our lives changes our perspective.

One line in the song states that praise may not always fix your problems, but “it’ll tell you how small they are.”

Yes, I understand that, at the time, those specific problems and issues feel monumental. But if we step back and really examine everything and understand that God is still working, those problems may not seem as huge as previously thought.

What an insightful way to think about praise during troubles!

“That’s The Thing About Praise,” in addition to being a catchy song, also includes some interesting thoughts and ideas about praising God during troubles. Give this song a listen!

Hebrews 13:15 “By him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.”
