As the saying goes, “a mind is a terrible thing to waste.” An education, gaining more insight and knowledge on a subject or several topics, is invaluable. Knowledge and wisdom are helpful tools that can help guide and direct us throughout life.
God’s Word also emphasizes the importance of education. Proverbs 16:16 reads, “How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.”
One elderly woman, understanding the importance of education, decided to finish high school. Pearl Neumann finally received her high school diploma at 100 years old from Spencerport High School in New York state, according to the YouTube video.
As the video explains, Pearl originally left high school all those years ago, during her sophomore year. Instead of continuing her education at that time, Pearl went to work on her family’s farm.
During the ceremony, Pearl stated she remembered some words of wisdom she got from a relative.
“I am so proud because I always thought I was nothing,” Pearl said. Everybody’s graduating and going and I said, ‘well, I didn’t graduate from high school.’ And I said ‘Well,’ and I began to think what my grandmother used to say, ‘Stand on your own two feet and you can do anything you want!”’ she said.
Pearl also added that she’s “tickled pink” over her educational accomplishment.
In a message posted on social media, the school district called Pearl “truly an inspiration” and that they are “honored to celebrate this milestone with her.”
The school district, in a release on their website, added that Pearl will be included in a display about the Class of 2023.
Congrats, Pearl! Job well done!
Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will forget your children.”
