Animals are fascinating and interesting creatures. Most people love watching them simply because of their funny, kooky antics. Whether it’s watching a cat hilariously interact with its tail or a puppy’s first encounter with its shadow, animals provide us with plenty of entertainment.
While it may not be about a dog or a cat, one video going around on social media features a much less common animal in its natural habitat: the capybara.
The short 16-second video shows the animal surfing…kind of. Instead of venturing out and testing its swimming ability, the precious being plays it safe and catches a ride on mom’s back. Thanks, mom!
In the video, the baby capybara can be seen easily moving through the marshy waters as it sits on its mother's back. Mom and baby make their way to land and pass by a duck. The oblivious duck is seen in the background momentarily.
Thankfully, the unsuspecting duck is the only other animal mom and baby encounter during their short voyage. Mom and baby reach their voyage unharmed as the cute, little video comes to an end.
Ok, so what is a capybara?
While the cute, little creature may resemble a beaver or maybe even a very hairy pig, it is not either of animals. Instead, the capybara is a rodent. In fact, it is the world’s largest rodent, according to the San Diego Zoo.
While the precious little capybara may not yet be confident in its ability to swim, that will soon likely no longer be a concern for it. That’s because for capybaras water is a great source of food and safety, according to the San Diego Zoo. They munch on water plants and in order to avoid potential predators, can stay submerged underwater for up to five minutes at a time.
The capybara is just another one of God’s captivating creations!
Genesis 2:19 “And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them; and whatever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.”
