Would you risk dropping out of school for a once-in-a-lifetime audition that may or may not pay off?

One thing is for sure, this young man put his faith and trust in believing God has a bigger purpose for him. Jay Copeland left Grad school for American Idol, and the risk paid off big time!

Jay was told he couldn’t have his cake and eat it too. He had entered a graduate program for the arts but he was told he would have to choose between acting and music.

He told Katy Perry, “I don't know if I made the right decision or the wrong decision, but I do know that I made the best decision for myself.”

Jay had a hard decision to make. Instead of putting his faith in his education, he let his faith rest in knowing God had a bigger purpose. He then dropped out of the program for a chance to audition on the 20th season of American Idol. And his well-trained, harmonious voice delivered a pitch-perfect performance of the song, “Sign, Sealed, Delivered,” by Stevie Wonder.

Jay’s stunning performance was given a standing ovation by all three judges. Katy then stated, “You don’t need them, we need you.” Judge Lionel Richie added, “Let me tell you, I have been alive a very long time and you just don't jump on a Stevie Wonder song. You owned it and on top of that you were having so much fun.”

Katy then reveals that because it is the 20th year of American Idol, it’s the show’s “Platinum Year.” In celebration of its platinum year, one special performer from each city will be chosen to receive a platinum ticket which means the performer will get to skip one round of competing. The best part was when Katy awarded Jay with this special honor!

We absolutely will be sitting on the edge of our seats as we watch Jay compete and perform. We have faith and absolutely trust that God is Authoring every part of Jay’s journey and we can’t wait to watch it all unfold!
