In this uplifting video, one man sings a beautiful a cappella rendition of the hymn ‘Be Still My Soul.’
“Be still, my soul– the Lord is on thy side!
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; leave to thy God to order and provide.
In ev’ry change He faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul–Thy best, thy heav’nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.”
The formation of the song ‘Be Still My Soul’ as it appears in our hymnal covers three countries – Germany, Scotland, and Finland. Katharina von Schlegel, a notable woman of the Pietism Revival, originally wrote the words to the hymn in German. One hundred years later the hymn was translated into English by Jane Borthwick from Scotland. The last contributor to ‘Be Still My Soul’ was Finland’s greatest-composer, Jean Sibelius. One movement from his ‘Finlandia’ is used as the tune for ‘Be Still My Soul.’ It’s amazing to see how God used three people from three different countries to put together a hymn that teaches us that God is in control and to wait on Him.
The man who is singing ‘Be Still My Soul’ in this video is Kaoma Chende. He does such a wonderful job signing all parts of the song, and he does it so beautifully.
On his YouTube page, he shares his gratitude for his God-given talent. “I am so thankful for the gift of music! Not really sure how our world would be without it,” he shares. “And so, as you visit my channel, I hope you will find a song or two that will be a blessing to you. I have a lot of fun putting these videos together. Thankful I can share my love for music with everyone that comes across it. All praise belongs to the most high.”
What a blessing it is to worship God with songs that tell of his love and faithfulness!
