In this heartwarming video, a deaf 9-year-old named Savannah performs the song ‘Brave’ by Sara Bareilles with ASL.
Savannah is performing on the show Little Big Shots, and Melissa McCarthy is the host. According to the show’s YouTube account, McCarthy “meets with some of the most inspiring and hilarious kids from all corners of the globe. They take us into their world, share their remarkable stories and show us the incredible talents that set them apart. It’s a celebration of how resilient, funny and inspiring kids can be when we allow them to be unabashedly themselves.” And Savannah blows it out of the park with her performance of ‘Brave.’
“You can be amazing
You can turn a phrase into a weapon or a drug
You can be the outcast
Or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love
Or you can start speaking up”
Savannah gives such a powerful performance and is so expressive when showing the meaning of the lyrics. It is inspiring to watch her sing along to the chorus, and she’ll make you want to sing along right there with her.
“Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly, I wanna see you be brave
With what you want to say
And let the words fall out
Honestly, I wanna see you be brave”
“Savannah, wow! I was feeling really low and I watched your performance,” writes one person on YouTube. “It made me feel so good, full of happiness, joy and hope. It made me happy cry. Thank you. Your signing, passion, dancing and big smile can change the world. Keep doing what you’re doing, please!”
Another person on YouTube commented: “My parents were deaf. This little girl embodies strength and passion beyond her years. I hope she continues to do this!”
This spirited girl is using her gift to touch others and bring them so much happiness. How wonderful is that! May she continue to use her beautiful ASL performances to inspire others and remind them to be unabashedly themselves. God
