In this uplifting video, one man sings a beautiful a cappella rendition of the hymn ‘Beulah Land.’
“O Beulah Land, sweet Beulah Land,
As on thy highest mount I stand,
I look away across the sea,
Where mansions are prepared for me,
And view the shining glory shore,
My Heav’n, my home forevermore!”
This well-known gospel song was written by Edgar Page Stites in 1876. Music for the lyrics were written by John R. Sweney.
Edgar Page Stites was born in Cape May, New Jersey and became a Christian when he was 19 years old. Shortly after that, he joined the Methodist Church of Cape May and became a local lay pastor. Stites was also involved in planting churches in the South Jersey area.
In his hymn ‘Beulah Land,’ Stites derived the lyrics from the King James Version of Isaiah 62:4. “Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate; but thou shalt be called Hephzibah and thy land Beulah; for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.”
The verse references the return of the Hebrews after their exile in Babylon. Hebrews shall no longer be called Forsaken, but Hephzibah (My Delight Is in Her). And Jerusalem will no longer be called Desolate, but Beulah (Married). This shows that the Hebrews have turned back to worshipping God.
The man who is singing ‘Beulah Land’ in this video is Kaoma Chende. He does such a wonderful job signing all parts of the song, and he does it so beautifully.
On his YouTube page, he shares his gratitude for his God-given talent. ““I am so thankful for the gift of music! Not really sure how our world would be without it,” he shares. “And so, as you visit my channel, I hope you will find a song or two that will be a blessing to you. I have a lot of fun putting these videos together. Thankful I can share my love for music with everyone that come across it. All praise belongs to the most high.”
